Soldiers are known generally to be strong, fierce, and brave. But even when they are trained to be one, they are still human beings and have feelings that they can’t show to the world. Though soldiers on the battlefield are fearless and ruthless, they can always rely on the Lord for help and for the hope of ending wars in the world. The question is, how can they ask the Lord for guidance? In what way can they find Him in the middle of the mischievous happenings during a war? Here are the ways how a soldier can find the lord in the middle of a battlefield:

Miracles That Happen on the Battlefield

Miracles do not only happen in the city or the mountains; they can also happen in a war. For example, a soldier is in a situation where he will surely lose his life being cornered by enemies, but suddenly the enemies fell into a trap and were blown by mines that were planted way back to the first world war.

Even brute and merciless soldiers do not deny that they have seen things like these and realize themselves believing that this was made by God. Because of this occurrence, these soldiers choose to seek the Lord and his guidance on the battlefield.

Near-Death Experience

Soldiers can find the lord if they are near to their deaths. In some cases, they want to repent as this will give them a chance to go to heaven despite the sins they have made on the battlefield.

In Carson Brannan’s book “From a KA-BAR to the Cross”, it was shown that a soldier who is ruthless in using a KA-BAR, a combat knife, in the jungles of Vietnam. He was identified as Sergeant Kenneth Wilson and was also like most soldiers who chase women during their R&R (a special leave given to active soldiers) but his life changed due to a certain battle that cause a great impact on him. Thus, starting his journey from holding a KA-Bar to the Cross.

When the Light of Hope Is Little

Even in the suburbs, when people lose hope and see only a brink of light to the success of their life they go to the church asking God for help. How much more for soldiers who are on the battlefield where anything could happen anytime?

It is not only bullets, explosives, knives, and tanks that make the light of hope for soldiers to become thin. It is also because of the loss of comrades and despair they feel on the battlefield which is covered by adrenaline. In the heat of the moment when hopes of a peaceful ending are like a needle in a haystack, soldiers tend to seek and ask God to guide them into finding this little chance of hopefulness.

Sympathy for the Soldiers That Died

Soldiers are very strong, courageous, and brave men that are trained to become fearless even in death. Most soldiers in combat have already killed enemies on the battlefield. Though it is normal for them to do that, it can still be traumatizing to have taken another person’s life.

Veterans of war have shared that they can still hear the cries and groans of enemies in pain, grasping for their life as it goes away. When they were still soldiers, after killing they would ask the Lord for forgiveness and some have come to seek repentance by sharing the word of God up until their retirement.

Conclusion

It is never too late to seek help and guidance from the Lord. Even for soldiers who have slaughtered their enemies. The blood of a soldier’s hands can be washed if they are willing to give their life to God.
